Baby Legs

Kallie had an ultrasound on her hip last week b/c her pediatrician thought her left hip felt "loose". The ultrasound showed mild hip dysplasia. We were referred to a Pediatric Orthopedic Doctor who we saw today and she decided the best treatment would be a harness which was NOT what I wanted to hear. I feel lucky because hip dysplasia is very treatable with out surgery when discovered early but at the same time I feel so sad that my little bug has to wear the harness for a few months. The Dr. promised me she is not in pain and that is it much harder on the parents than it is on the kiddos.

The harness is quite the contraption. The Dr. fit the harness to Kallie and showed us how to put it on her. Then she left the room and told us to put in on ourselves and let her know when we were finished. Luckily we figured it out pretty quickly. I guess the two good things are that the harness is pink and that we get to use the cute baby legs we have . . . I see lots of onsies and baby legs in the near future.

Siblings

Kallie and Coho are still trying to figure each other out. We think they are starting to like each other but it has been a slow process. Coho used to run downstairs every time Kallie would cry but now he walks over to where she is and lays down or gives her a big lick on the face (or a few licks). He even sleeps outside of her door when he knows she is in there sleeping. I think he is becoming a true lab and they will be best friends in no time.

The Miracle Swing

Before Kallie arrived we decided we needed a swing and a vibrate/bouncy seat because we have heard that babies love them. For some of my friends this is the only way they can shower in the morning. Well not me . . . our little fiesty girl hates her bouncy seat and her swing. I put her in there and immediately her face starts turning red and then it happens . . . she starts screaming. I am not talking about a little cry I mean the kind where they can't even make noise because they are crying so hard . . . I even say "breathe Kallie"! Soooooooo we needed to come up with Plan B. I realized that I swing Kallie side to side in order to get her to sleep but her swing goes front to back. I called my sister in law Molly to see if she had a swing that we could borrow, she did and it just happens to swing either side to side OR front to back. Eric and I literally jumped in the car that afternoon to pick up the swing (we were willing to try anything). Once we got home we decided to test our theory. We set the swing up and slowly put Kallie in it . . . this is what happened . . .

Pumpkin Patch

Today we decided to take a family trip to the Trinity Pumpkin Patch in Issaquah. We met Kelly, Martin and baby Cooper for our adventure. Cooper and Kallie are a bit too young to enjoy the pumpkins but it was such a beautiful day we had fun walking around and of course taking a ton of photos. We are hoping to make this an annual event!

Two Months Old

Kallie Elizabeth Bates is two months old . . . I can't believe it!!! The last two months have gone by way too fast. Kallie has brought so much love and happiness to our lives. Over the last month she has started smiling, cooing and following her toys with her eyes. She is also much more alert and loves laying next to her puppy (although he usually moves). Kallie also loves spending time with her cousins . . . all 9 of them. The girls love to talk about how pretty she is and how she should wear their American Girl Doll clothes when she gets bigger and the boys are the opposite. . ."Kallie looks like a bug . . . a people bug" is a quote from one of her boy cousins Ethan. Regardless they all love her to pieces in their own way.

Kallie had her two month wellness check up yesterday. She was 9lb 10oz (18%) and 21.25 inches long (10%). The Dr. said she is doing great :)

Kallie . . . thank you for being our little angel. We love you so much and can't even remember what life was like without you. Watching you grow and learn has been amazing. You are such a funny little girl who loves to be swaddled, sleep on daddy's chest, go on walks with mommy, smile in your sleep, wiggle on the changing table, stretch like crazy when you wake up, cuddling with your buns in the air and of course staring into our eyes at all hours of the night.

I asked your daddy what his favorite things is and he said when you are cuddling on the couch just looking at him with your big blue eyes. My favorite part is when you first wake up in the morning . . . I always say "mommy's here" and you immediately look into my eyes and I get the best morning snuggles ever!

Daddy and I are so excited to watch you grow into a beautiful little girl. We love you Kallie Bear.

Prayers

The past week has been a rough one. One of my bestfriends received the worst news I can think of . . . her little girl Georgia (11 months old) was diagnosed with cancer. As a new mom I just can't even imagine receiving that news or even being able to process the word cancer. I was able to go visit them in the hospital and was happy to see baby Georgia being her smiley self. She was smiling, laughing, and of course screaming because she loves to hear her voice :) Not only is Georgia being a tough cookie Alison and Brian are both staying strong for thier little girl. Although they don't know the exact kind of cancer baby Georgia has they are ready to hit this head on and focus on recovery! The Handsaker family is in my prayers every second of every day . . . love you guys!!! XOXO

Little Cougar

Kallie is our little Coug! Thanks to Papa she has her first Coug hat and loves it. Of course the Cougs lost but regardless Kallie was rooting them on :) Today was also the day Kallie and I went on our first walk using the front pack. She has been too small until now. I am pretty sure she likes it since she fell asleep immediately!!
