30 Weeks and Counting!

(Coho is already jealous and wanted to be in the photo too!)

Wow I cannot believe I am 30 weeks pregnant already! Eric and I took our first baby class on Saturday. Although there were no major AH-HA moments it did give us lots to think about . . . I think I am more afraid of labor now than I was before the class(HA). We have a CPR/Safety and Newborn class to go!

Here are some stats on our little one from my babycenter email . . . as always I look forward to the "veggie or fruit" they compare her too . . . today she is a Cabbage :)

Your baby's about 15.7 inches long now, and she weighs almost 3 pounds (like a head of cabbage). A pint and a half of amniotic fluid surrounds her, but that volume will decrease as she gets bigger and takes up more room in your uterus. Her eyesight continues to develop, though it's not very keen; even after she's born, she'll keep her eyes closed for a good part of the day. When she does open them, she'll respond to changes in light but will have 20/400 vision — which means she can only make out objects a few inches from her face. (Normal adult vision is 20/20.)

Birthday Boy!

This week was Eric's B-day week or as Eric would say June is his Birthday Month! The celebration started on Sunday with a combined Father's Day/Birthday dinner at my sisters house. On his actual birthday (6/24) we decided to go for a walk in the sunshine after work and then head to Jaks for a nice steak dinner . . . followed by birthday cake at home!

For those of you who don't know this fun fact about Eric let me fill you in on a little secret. Eric is obsessed with presents!! He is like a little kid on Christmas morning searching for his gifts around the house and asking if he can open them early! With that said, we were up bright and early on his birthday and he even opened two of his gifts before he left for work (HaHa)!

Happy Birthday to my hubby . . . finally we are the same age!!! I am looking forward to a lifetime of birthday celebrations ahead . . . I will just need to find a new hiding place for your presents each year. I love you honey and feel so lucky to have you as may husband!! I think our neighbor said it best the other day when she said "You have such a great husband, he really is a great catch" I smiled and said "I agree, I feel very lucky he picked me"!

Father's Day

With our little one on the way in September I thought it would be fun to do a little something special for Eric. Ever since we found out we were having a girl Eric has told me numerous times that just because she is a girl it doesn't mean she can't fish and hunt with her daddy. So for Father's Day Baby Bates and I decided to surprise daddy with a few special gifts . . .Happy Father's Day!!!

I can already picture our little girl fishing with her daddy! I have a feeling she will have him wrapped around her little finger the moment he meets her!!!

Furry 5K

Today Eric, Coho and I participated in the Furry 5K to raise money for the Seattle Animal Shelter. We woke up to grey skies and kept our fingers crossed it would not rain. Of course the moment we checked in the rain started to fall but we live in Seattle so that didn't stop us. We met up with our friends Kelly, Martin and their dog Daisy and off we went. Martin and Eric decided to run with the pups while Kelly and I both 7 months pregnant decided to stick with walking. Luckily once the race started the rain stopped . . . we had a great time and I am pretty sure the pups did not mind the rain.

Good Friends

Today we spent the day in Gig Harbor with the Kvinsland family. The weather was not what we had hoped but since we didn't get rained on I guess we can't complain. Bradie and Eric (Ryker, Baden, and Trig) live on the water in Gig Harbor so we spent time walking on the beach and catching up while the boys did a little fly fishing. Bradie has been a dear friend since high school and although we don't see each other all that often we always pick right back up like no time has passed by . . . that is how you know you have a friend for life. Here are a few pictures from our day!

Decorating the nursery continues . . .

We are making great progress on the nursery as each week goes by. Last week we bought a cute dresser from IKEA (which ended up not being so cute since it took Eric over 2 hours to assemble. . .good husband). We also added some artwork to the walls. My favorite part so far are the dragonflies we added above her crib (these were Eric's idea). The dragonflies were just wood and we painted them with the extra paint we had leftover in our garage (minus the pink which we bought). . . all of the colors worked out so perfectly!!! We also plan to add her name in block letters above her crib (her name is still TBD) and a few other things here and there so stay tuned.

Love the dragonflies thanks to my creative hubby!

More dragonflies . . .

The new dresser and lots of outfits on top from my baby shower

Some new artwork and baskets for our changing table

Let the third trimester begin!

It is official, I started my third trimester this week (28 weeks). I can't believe we get to meet our baby girl in just 12 weeks! According to my weekly emails from The Bump and BabyCenter our little one is now the size of an eggplant or a Chinese cabbage! She is around 14.5 inches long and between 2-2.5 pounds. She can blink her eyes, which now sport lashes. With her eyesight developing, she may be able to see the light that filters in through the womb. She's also developing billions of neurons in her brain and adding more body fat in preparation for life in the outside world.

OK folks here is it . . . my belly at it's finest (and FYI this is the last belly photo b/c I don't want to scare anyone)!!!

Baby Shower

I had my first baby shower on Saturday. My mom's friend Phyllis and her daughter were the hosts and did a wonderful job. We had pink plates and pink/brown polka dot napkins, perfect for a baby girl! The food was amazing and the company was even better. Unfortunately my mom was not able to attend because she had surgery on her foot on Friday and was not feeling well Saturday. Luckily, all of the ladies and my sister stepped in to be my mom's for the day!

Baby Bates got so many great gifts . . . from a baby swing, to a bouncy seat, lots of cute outfits and many plush blankets! I think Eric is hoping her favorite gift will be the princess fishing pole his mom bought :) I feel so blessed to have such an amazing family and wonderful friends. It makes me so excited for the arrival of Baby Bates. a

(FYI. . .Coho just ran by me with one of the blankets in his mouth . . . I think he wonders why he didn't get any gifts)!

The crib is up!

It's official the crib is up (thanks to Eric) and most of the bedding has arrived. Now we just need to pick up our crib mattress from my parents house and wait for the fitted sheet to arrive (it is on back order but envision a chocolate brown sheet with lime green, light blue, yellow and pink polka dots). Our next step is a dresser and changing table which we are looking at those tonight so stay tuned!

On a side note: Holy cow seeing a crib in the nursery when I walk by the room makes it all seem so real now . . . it is crazy how fast time is going by! I can't believe we get to meet our little one in 3 months!

Finally bedding I love . . . after at least 4 or 5 I didn't love :)

Even Coho is anxiously awaiting the arrival of Baby Bates!

Proud mommy to be!

Weekend Nursery Progress

This weekend we focused on the nursery. Our goal was to get the walls and trim painted and to put up the chair rail. We were successful with all three! Here are a few pics of the work in progress . . . Our next mission is the crib!!

We decided to go with a neutral sand color paint and accent with bedding and artwork.

Yes I do know how to use a nail gun (sort of)

Chair-rail in progress

The chair rail up and looking good . . . Nice work honey!

Let the nursery begin . . . well sort of??

Eric and I decided we should switch our bedroom with the guest room so our little one would be in the back of the house and not sharing a wall with our one bathroom upstairs. We were successful making the switch and even managed to SQUEEZE both of our dressers into our bedroom. Previously my clothes were in our room and Eric's were in the guest room. Now the big question is who's closet is moving downstairs . . . that is still undecided (but I should win)!

Our first project was to prime the bedroom walls since we had a blue room. So to date our nursery just has a bunch of stuff on the ground and primed walls! Who knew picking out a paint color could be so hard??? Is it too much to ask for a nice green that is not too mint and not too lime? Obviously it is because after painting at least 5 different tester colors on the wall we decided to go with a neutral sand color and accent the room with pictures, a rug, etc (none of which have been decided on yet). Here is a pic of the room as it is today. . .oh yeah and the stuff we have downstairs that isn't even in there yet (crib, changing table, swing. . . NO IDEA how we will fit it all in)!a

Here are a few pictures of the nursery as of Friday.

Babymoon

In late December Eric and I decided to book a trip to Hawaii for a little sunshine in April. We still had the condo we did not use for our honeymoon so we figured why not go before we have kiddos . . . ironically enough I found out I was pregnant the day after we booked our trip! We contemplated canceling our trip to save money but decided we should go an enjoy ourselves before Baby Bates arrival in September.

Our trip was so much fun. We had a great mix of relaxation, hiking and driving around the island. We even had a chance to stop by the military base where Eric grew up and was stationed when he was in the Marines. We spent a few days on the North Shore with Eric's best friend Guch. He was a great tour guide . . . we went snorkeling, saw sea turtles, went to the Pipeline, ate at a Giovonnie's Shrimp Truck and he introduced me Teds Haupia Pie! When we weren't out and about we spent time relaxing on different beaches around the island. To end our trip we went on a beautiful sunset cruise.

All and all we had an a amazing trip and we are so glad we decided to take an official "Babymoon"! Here are a few pictures from our trip . . .
